Kennel News

31st July 2022

Hi everyone! It’s been a long time since our last update so here is what we’ve been up to.

The kennels are still operating an appointment system for nail clipping and galloping in the field, between 10.00am and 2.00pm every day. This is working well and avoids the long queues we had at the field gate on sponsor weekends and helps with the restricted parking on site. It is also a lot more flexible for people who are not always available on weekends.

We are also taking appointments to meet the greyhounds in our care looking for loving homes. At present, most of the kennel hounds are boys, but we hope to have more girls arriving soon. The adoption page of our website is updated daily, with the dogs write ups being completed as soon as they have been assessed.

On advice from our 'National Support Centre’ we cannot allow viewing inside the kennels, but the kennel staff will bring your preferred greyhounds out to you, and you will be able to walk with them around the grass paddock. So if you're coming to the kennels with a view to adopt, please have in mind which dogs you would like to meet. All of our available hounds can be seen on the 'Dogs for Adoption' page of our website.

The kennels still need your old duvets (not feather ones please), sleeping bags, sheets, blankets and any other items that can be used for bedding. Also, we would welcome your old towels. Please ask your family, friends or work colleagues. These donations can be dropped off daily at the kennels any time between 10 and 2, or if more convenient to you, they can be dropped off in the bedding bin on the car park at Monmore Green Stadium.

After a lot of requests, Alison has decided to open the kennels by the house for holiday boarding for your greyhounds. The cost will be £15 per night for a single kennel and £25 per night for a double kennel. Spaces are limited, so please contact the kennels as soon as possible for availability.

After the problems we all faced with the Covid pandemic, we are pleased to say that we have been able hold several awareness events at local carnivals and fairs in the past few months. At present we are in the process of arranging other events in several town centres and the details will be added to the Events Page when available.

As many of you may be aware, our Facebook page was deleted, but we now have a new one where you can again see the daily posts of the kennel dogs enjoying themselves, either in the field or out and about in the local parks. It would be great if you could share these posts, so we can reach more people and they can see what great pets greyhounds make. We are always looking for new people to help our branch in a number of different ways. We have volunteers daily at the kennels between 10 and 2 who help with day to day tasks with the dogs such as walking, grooming, feeding and changing their water. We also have volunteers who help on roadshows, these happen mainly on weekends, and we are always after people to help us spread the message to the public of what fantastic pets greyhounds make. If you would like to help in anyway then please contact the kennels.
