With falling temperatures this week, extra blankets have been put on the kennel beds for the hounds to snuggle into and we are always grateful for donations of old blankets, sheets and duvets. These can either be brought to the kennels or left in the container at the Monmore Green, that is located on the car park, for us to collect.
We have received another donation of bedding from our friends at the ‘House of Bread’ charity in Stafford this week and our thanks goes to Will and his team on behalf of the kennel hounds.
At night, the hounds have also enjoyed having their fleece lined coats on to sleep in, however one or two prefer to take them off and use them as a pillow!!
Please remember, if it’s cold enough for you to need a coat on when walking your hound, your hound will need one as well, even on short walks.
The weather has also meant that the trusty pump has been in operation on several occasions this week to empty the soakaway pool into the main pool at the other end of the farm. No sooner than we reduced the water level in the soakaway, it filled up again with water draining from the field which is still quite boggy today.
With next weekend being our ‘Sponsor Weekend’, we will update you on the availability of galloping later in the week via our social media sites of facebook and twitter. Nail clipping will be available and we have food available for those wishing to collect it.
We would ask that you park on Hilton Park Services, which is free for two hours, and walk the short distance to the kennels as parking is limited and damage is being done to the grass areas outside the house and by the greenhouse.
Four more hounds have left us this week for their new homes.
Bridget changed her name to Bella, when she joined the Humphreys family in Tettenhall Wood. She was followed by Diva, who also changed her name to Dotty when she joined Rowton family in Walsall. Walter kept his name when he joined James in Kingswinford, but Blue changed his name to Sky when he joined volunteer Russell, his family and other hounds in Newcastle under Lyme. Photographs of the hounds with their new families can be seen on our social media.
Last week we welcomed Arthur, Dee and Suzy into the kennels and six more hounds will be joining us later this week, to fill the spaces we have available. Their photographs and blogs will appear on the adoption page of the website shortly.
Following a phone call from another volunteer today to tell us about one of their hounds passing over the ‘Rainbow Bridge’ we have decided to add a feature to the kennel news and share with you a short obituary of passing hounds.
Holly had lived with Sue and Carl for the last eight years, having joining them from the kennels when she was five. She enjoyed the love they gave her and the company of their other hounds as she enjoyed her retirement from racing. Run free sweet girl with the other heavenly hounds.
If you would like us to share your memories of your hound in the news, please email us a little blog and photograph to email@example.com. We will also include it on the Rainbow Bridge page of the website.
And finally, a reminder that the Branch Volunteers meeting will be held this Friday in the restaurant area of the stadium starting promptly at 6.30pm., which is open to all registered volunteers. Why not pop along and share your ideas to help us continue to find loving homes for the hounds in our care. You will be very welcome.
